Why choose Wooden Fish?

For more than 18 years, Wooden Fish founder, Tom Flint, has been interviewing (and photographing) the world's top studio engineers and producers, and his work regularly appears in the leading music industry publications. His consummate interviewing skills and in-depth technical knowledge, coupled with a background in fine art, give him the edge over video production companies that often charge a lot for bland and impersonal visuals.

The recording technology of today is extremely complex and can be very confusing. There are endless options and countless variables. Our advice will help you to make the right choices so that you don’t end up paying out for gear you don’t need or will never use. We can also help you get to grips with the business side of the industry so that you stand the best possible chance of benefitting from your endeavours.

We can give advice on how to:

      • Create a home studio tailored to you needs.
      • Improve and update your current home setup.
      • Spend your money on the gear that really matters.
      • Select the best location available for your studio.
      • Ergonomically and acoustically design your work space.
      • Make the best use of compressors, EQ, automation, effects and mastering tools.

Having interviewed many of the world’s top music producers, writers, artists, publishers, managers and label owners, we can also offer insider advice which will help you to:

      • Understand the workings of the music industry – including collection agencies and royalty issues.
      • Assess the relative value of record labels, publishing companies, managers, pluggers and PR agents.
      • Avoid dodgy contracts and dead-end deals.
      • Become aware of other potential avenues of work available to you.

We want to provide the most help for the best price. In order to do that, you will need to think carefully about your objectives before making contact. Please try to answer these questions and submit your answers if you would like a consultation. Armed with the information you provide, we can cut to the chase and deal more precisely with your situation.

What is it you really want to do with your music?

       What is your budget?

What kind of setup (if any) do you have already?

What are your limitations in terms of work and family commitments?

We charge an initial consultation fee of £50 for an hour on a UK landline. This might be all the time you need if you are very focussed on your goal. Additional consultations are available for a reduced fee. Home visits are subject to travel expenses.
